There’s a bit of a battle going on at the moment among the CPU manufacturers for the hearts and minds of Android device makers (and there users), between those who think four cores in a CPU is more than enough, and those who think eight is barely enough.
And in this sort of battle, which is worth millions to the various CPU makers, PR is just another weapon for use so in some ways, it’s not surprising to see chipmaker Qualcomm come out with a YouTube video that pushes the benefits of quality over quantity when it comes to CPU cores.… Read more
Android mini PC brand Ditter looks to have been around for a little while with a number of dual-core mini PCs on the market but it appears to have just launched two new quad-core TV stick models in the V20 and V21 models.
The V21… Read more runs Allwinner’s A31 quad-core Cortex A7 SoC CPU – while it’s not as flashy as Rockchip’s RK3188 quad Cortex A9 offering, the A31 does include PowerVR’s highly regarded SGX544 MP2 eight-core GPU, which should make gaming a sweet passtime.
The original MK802 mini PC was the forerunner of the myriad of TV stick-style releases we’ve seen over the last 18 months or so, but while the original single-core Allwinner A10 release has seen better days, the chassis itself is still getting a run with updated hardware in a model called the MK806.
However, compared against the original MK802, the MK806 has some worthwhile extras.… Read more
A few weeks ago, we reported on Rockchip’s plans to release a Miracast dongle design based on its single-core RK2928 SoC CPU. Well, it looks like its landed on the market in the form of the new Mocreo M1.
The HDMI stick, selling for $26 on dx.com, clocks at 1GHz and comes with almost a ‘pick a number’ amount of RAM (anywhere between 64MB and 256MB).… Read more
While Rockchip’s RK3188 quad-core SoC CPU has become the driving force behind many tablets and mini PCs during the last six months, its performance on some models hasn’t been well optimised. That became evident when Rockchip announced a new SDK2.0 release for the chip which offered considerably improved video playback capabilities.
Rumours are that while many new RK3188-based tablets such as the PIPO U8 and CUBE U30GT2 are receiving the new SDK2.0 kernel build, many mini PCs are built using the original SDK1.0.… Read more
