Mini PC brand REKO has been churning out the UG007 series of TV stick mini PCs for some time but somewhere along the line we missed the release of the REKO UG007III.
For a while, it seemed as though the world only had one quad-core ARM-class processor to choose from for mini PCs – Rockchip’s ubiquitous RK3188. However, in recent times, several new models have arrived sporting the Allwinner A31 quad-core Cortex A7 chip instead. The Allwinner A31 is clocked at only 1GHz and its straight-line performance won’t likely match the 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex A9 design of the RK3188. But with its PowerVR SGX544 MP2 graphics engine, the A31 should still prove to be a decent gaming unit.
The only concern we have is that the spec list we’ve seen advertised with this model is exactly the same as that for the QT970, the difference being that we’ve actually seen pics of the USB2.0 host port on this UG007III, which we haven’t for the QT970.
For the record, the UG007III includes the standard 1GB of DDR3 RAM and 8GB of flash, preloaded with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. With Google having now announced Android 4.4 (Kit Kat), we think it will become increasingly difficult for mini PC makers to continue selling older versions of Android. The storage here is expandable via MicroSD card slot, which is good for up to 32GB cards. Again, two microUSB ports are advertised, one for DC input; the other for USB OTG functionality. There’s also a USB2.0 Type-A host port.
While the QT970 features an external antenna, the UG007III does not but still includes 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity.
Given the similarities, it’s probably not surprsing the UG007III sells for the same price on Aliexpress as the QT970 – $62 including shipping.
The UG007III is built around the same UG-series TV stick chassis and the package includes short HDMI extension cable, microUSB to USB cable, microUSB OTG host adapter plus USB power adapter.
