Ocean Star TRK306 quad-core mini PC selling for $57

A new low-cost quad-core TV stick mini PC appears to have just hit the market – the new Ocean Star TRK306. Powered by Rockchip’s RK3188 quad-core Cortex A9 SoC CPU, the TRK306 sells on Aliexpress for $57, the cheapest price we’ve seen so far for a quad-core TV stick.

Apart from the RK3188 quad-core chip, it comes with 1GB of DDR3 RAM but only 4GB of on-board flash, preloaded with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system. Apparently, there’s an option to get up to 16GB of on-board flash but we’ve not see how you get it. Still, there’s a MicroSD card slot, good for cards up to 32GB.

There’s also two USB ports – one standard USB2.0 host and one microUSB OTG, which also doubles as DC power input.

Wireless connectivity is restricted to 802.11b/g/n – there’s no Bluetooth available here.┬áIt’s also relatively thin at just 8mm thick.

At this stage, we don’t know if the Android OS has been built with Rockchip’s improved SDK2.0 kernel build that reportedly adds significant improvements to the performance of the processor. But it is the cheapest RK3188-powered mini PC we’ve seen to-date.
