Ugoos UM1 TV stick features dual-core CPU with remote control

Mini PC brand Ugoos has an unusual TV stick on the market called the Ugoos UM1.

It’s ‘usual’ in the sense that it’s a TV stick-style unit, but ‘unusual’ in that it includes a flip-out external Wi-Fi antenna. We’ve seen a few of these now, from the Podoor T518 with its slide-out antenna on the side as well as new MK809C with its matchbox-style sliding antenna. This UM1′s pull-up antenna design is unusual again.

Otherwise, while it’s not the richest model in terms of on-board features, there are some extras that might appeal.

It’s powered by Rockchip’s first-generation RK3066 dual-core Cortex A9 SoC CPU, accompanied by 1GB of RAM and only 4GB of built-in flash, preloaded with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system. You can expand the storage through its MicroSD card slot, good for cards up to 32GB. There’s also the standard Type-A USB2.0 host port and microUSB OTG port.

We’d have liked it more, though, if it came with 8GB of on-board flash. However, according to the Aliexpress reseller we found selling this unit, there are options for 8, 16 and even 32GB of on-board flash, however, there are no details on how you get access to these extra options.

Wireless here is only n802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi with no Bluetooth. However, it’s one of the few models that includes what looks to be a reasonably-decent remote control, which for the $53 pricetag that includes shipping, isn’t bad. We found the UM1 selling on Aliexpress.
