LG’s new G2 is looking like becoming a cult phone it terms of performance with its super-fast Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 quad-core SoC or ‘system on a chip’ processor with a clock speed of up to 2.26GHz, coupled up to a huge 5.2-inch True HD-IPS LCD panel with 1080 x 1920-pixel resolution.
Also, you get up to 2 GB of RAM on-board, while gaming on that 5.2-inch display is powered by the Qualcomm chip’s Adreno 330 graphics core.
As for storage, there’s 32GB of flash storage (24GB user available) but the one drawback is there’s no external storage options available. You get the latest version of Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) to run your favourite apps and for power, the device includes a sizeable 3000mAh Lithium-Polymer battery but unfortunately, no talk or standby times were available at time of publishing.
Wireless connectivity is as good as you can get with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac support built-in and Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP covers wireless personal communications. Multi-network support over 2G is handled through the device’s 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz band coverage while for 3G networks, the bands covered are 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100MHz. 4G networks are equally well covered with five-band support.
The G2 should deliver high-quality photos, thanks to its 13MP image sensor with LED flash on the back and you get a simpler 2.1MP camera on the front. You can also capture video with the phone at up to 1080p@60fps, double the normal rate, thanks to that fast CPU.
Despite the features and size, the G2′s weight tips the scales at a reasonable 143 grams while its dimensions are 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm. The unit was originally announced in August 2013 and is expected to appear on store shelves sometime before October 2013.
