ACUBE A1 TV box mini PC offers HDMI, composite AV

The Acube A1 is said to be a new model just recently going sale, however, despite its low price its hardware isn’t the latest generation available.

The A1 features a dual-core Cortex A9 SoC CPU, however, it’s not clear which one. Minimachines.net believes its a Rockchip RK3066; Androidpc.es doesn’t specify it, nor does the Aliexpress reseller selling it. Still, the RK3066 would fit the bill and what we think might be the age of this chassis.

The chip comes accompanied by 1GB of RAM and 4GB of flash, preloaded with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. At this stage, there’s no word on a possible upgrade to Android 4.2. What you do get is two USB2.0 host ports plus a full-size SD card slot, good for cards up to 32GB.

You get wireless and wired networking through the 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and the RJ45 Fast Ethernet port. The Wi-Fi is only 802.11g standard at its fastest but it does come with an external whip antenna.

Audio/video output is primarily through the HDMI port but there’s also a 3.5mm TRRS composite A/V output you can use.

One of the Acube A1′s best features is its price – at $63 plus shipping, it’s pretty cheap but just be aware that some quad-core RK3188 based models are now selling for near this price so we’d recommend shopping around before you decide on this one.
