Taiwanese notebook maker ASUS has launched its new N-series notebooks into Australia today with two new models – the ASUS N550JV and N750JV.
Both feature Intel’s recently-released Haswell CPUs in either Core i5 or Core i7 variants.
The two models differ with the N550JV sporting a 15.6-inch I-IPS screen with 1920×1080-pixel resolution while the N750JV packs in a larger 17.3-inch full HD screen in two versions – a lower cost 1600×900-pixel model or the larger Full HD option. All models have their screen driven by Nvidia’s GeForce GT 750M graphics engine with 4GB of graphics RAM to go with it.
The basic chassis supports up to 16GB of DDR3-1600 RAM, although the RAM with the actual units is a mix of 4GB and 8GB options.
Both the N550 and N750 models have SATA3 support with the N750JV able to take two 2.5-inch drives. It comes with two 750GB HDDs while the N550 includes a 1TB option, all drives being 5400RPM types.
As for networking, 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 come standard on both models while there’s decent connectivity too – both models feature HDMI 1.4 output, Gigabit Ethernet and mini DisplayPort plus a 3.5mm subwoofer external output. That’s in addition to these being claimed to being the first notebooks to feature quad-speaker arrays.
As for USB ports, the N550 gives you three USB3.0 ports; the N750 four.
Both models come with integrated Lithium-polymer batteries but given the extra screen size, the N750 gets the larger option – 6260mAh vs 4000mAh on the N550.
Prices start at $1599 for the N550JV and $2299 for N750JV and are available now from ASUS resellers.
