The Motorola DROID Ultra doesn’t have the same 48-hour battery-life as the new DROID Maxx, however, it’s still of significant interest, thanks to its new processor. All three DROID phones will feature the new Motorola X8 processor system, which according to reports we’ve seen is said to be a modified dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon Pro processor clocking along at up to 1.7GHz. However, the graphics engine is being claimed to be a quad-core Adreno 320 design, which should give it excellent gaming prowess. In addition, there are two other CPUs making up the ’8′ – a contextual processor and a natural language processor.
The Ultra is built around a 5-inch chassis and a Super AMOLED panel with 720 x 1280-pixel resolution. It comes with 2GB of RAM plus 16GB of on-board flash storage, preloaded like the Maxx and Mini with Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system. The storage can be expanded via MicroSD card slot, good for up to 32GB per card.
Despite not having the same size battery as the DROID Maxx, the Ultra still includes a decent 2130mAh Lithium-ion battery, good enough for 28 hours talk and 312 hours standby time.
You’ll have no trouble with Wi-Fi given its 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac-standards support and it has Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP covered. The phone’s 2G network coverage includes the 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz bands and 3G is supported over 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100MHz.
Like the other models, there’s a 10MP image sensor on the back with autofocus and LED flash delivering the phone’s best photo quality and you get a secondary 2 MP option on the front for video-conferencing. The Ultra quite happily doubles as a videocam with support for up to 1080p@30fps.
The Motorola DROID Ultra measures 137.4 x 71.1 x 7.1 mm and has a comfortable weight at 140 grams. The product was announced in July 2013.
