Motorola is stepping up to the plate again with its long-awaited range of new smartphones, starting with the new DROID Mini. Inside, you’ll find a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core Krait chip delivering the major horsepower and up to 2 GB of memory on-board. It’s built into a 4.3-inch chassis that packs in a 720 x 1280-pixel resolution Super AMOLED panel, driven by an as-yet-unnamed Adreno GPU core inside the Qualcomm SoC CPU.
There’s on-board storage through a 16GB cache of built-in flash memory while external space can be had through microSD, up to 32 GB for files that won’t fit inside. The on-board cache is preloaded with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) to run your favourite apps. As for power, the DROID Mini includes a 2000mAh Lithium-ion-type battery but unfortunately, no talk or standby times were available at time of publishing.
Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP covers wireless personal communications and it covers all of the Wi-Fi standards with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac support. The phone will also have quad-band network coverage on the 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100MHz bands for both 2GB and 3G as well as 4G/LTE coverage at 700MHz.
You can capture still images via the 10 MP autofocus image sensor with LED flash on the back of the device or simply use the front-facing 2 MP camera for personal shots. You can also capture video with the phone at up to 1080p@30fps.
The DROID Mini’s weight tips the scales at 140.1 grams while its dimensions are 122.1 x 61.2 x 8.6 mm. Motorola announced this new model back in July 2013.
