Aoson M30 Extreme Edition gets quad-core upgrade

aosonm30Chinese tablet maker Aoson is about to give its 9.7-inch Retina-paneled tablet an upgrade, upping its dual-core CPU to a quad-core model and a name rebadge to Aoson M30 Extreme Edition.

The new model will retain the 9.7-inch iPad-like Retina-grade I-PS panel from the Deluxe Edition but see an upgrade from its original dual-core RK3066 SoC CPU to Rockchip’s popular RK3188 quad-core offering. ┬áThe chip is accompanied by 2GB of DDR3 and 16GB of flash, preloaded with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system and it’s using the new RK3188 SDK2.0 firmware update so it’ll be interesting to see just what extra performance this one can deliver.

The tablet also features dual-band (2.4/5GHz) 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless networking and Bluetooth 4.0 support.

To go with that screen, the Aoson M30 Extreme Edition gets a sizeable 8000mAh Lithium-ion battery – while there are no battery runtime details, the combination of the RK3188 SoC CPU and that battery should see it do reasonably well.

The RK3188 is based on ARM’s Cortex A9 architecture but unlike most other similar chips, the RK3188 is manufactured at a 28-nanometre scale, which reduces heat production and power consumption. The quad-core Mali-400 MP4 graphics engine is the same one that appears in Samsung’s Exynos 4412 quad-core SoC CPU that powered the Galaxy S3 smartphone from 2012.

The new model doesn’t have a price as yet but word is, it’s expected to go on sale July 22.
