New 10moons D6 dual-core TV box with Amlogic CPU

The TV box mini PC market is really starting to hot up with new models appearing almost daily at the moment. The latest is from hitherto-unknown brand 10moons, producing quite a stylish-looking model called the 10moons D6.

While it looks large enough on the outside to house an internal drive, unfortunately, it doesn’t. Instead, the 10moons D6 is powered by Amlogic’s dual-core 8726-MX SoC CPU, accompanied by the increasingly standard 1GB of DDR3 RAM and 4GB of flash, preloaded with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system and the promise of 4.2 on the way.

Given its size, it’s a little disappointing this one only comes with two USB 2.0 host ports. That said, video support is good with HDMI output plus composite A/V in the form of RCA sockets. There’s good networking with RJ45 Fast Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi with an external Wi-Fi antenna.

Like the CS878 we’ve just looked at, the D6′s AM8726-MX runs ARM’s Mali-400 MP2 graphics engine. But since the AM8726-MX is based on Cortex A9 architecture, we expect it to perform better than the CS878. The higher 1.6GHz won’t likely hurt either. What will hurt is the price – at around $160 plus shipping, it’s definitely not one of the cheaper TV box-style mini PCs you’ll find. The kit includes remote, cables and PSU.
