CS878 TV box mini PC features Infotmic chip

cs878If you’re looking for a mini PC aside from the usual Rockchip-based examples, the CS878 is one option hitting online stores and one of the very few we’ve seen to include an Infotmic chip – in fact, we can’t remember seeing one before.

Infotmic is one of the lesser-known Chinese ARM chip makers, its profile behind Allwinner and Rockchip, but it has produced an iMAPx820 dual-core SoC CPU based on ARM’s older Cortex A5 design.

The CS878 accompanies the iMPA820 CPU with 1GB of DDR3 RAM and 4GB of flash storage, preloaded with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system. The storage can be expanded by MicroSD card, up to 32GB per card.

There’s a reasonable list of peripheral ports on this one with two USB2.0 ports for external devices. Video output is good with HDMI output and composite A/V through a 3.5mm TRRS connector, along with optical S/PDIF digital audio. You also get decent networking with 802.11b/g/n Wi-FI and RJ45 Fast Ethernet, but no Bluetooth.

At this stage, we’ve seen it on Aliexpress for around $75 including shipping. However, we doubt it has the performance to match similar units featuring the RK3188 quad-core CPU from Rockchip.
