ICOO ICOU8GS delivers iPad mini-like screen with quad-core CPU for $US165

icou8gsChinese tablet maker ICOO is getting busy, launching a number of new tablets in the last week or so. Inside the ICOO ICOU8GS, you’ll find a decent mix of options, such as up to 2GB of RAM on-board and just for something different, an Allwinner A31 quad-core Cortex A7 processor powering on with a 1.2GHz CPU clock rate (makes a change from all the Rockchip RK3188 tablets around).

Inside, there’s an 8-inch I-PS panel with 1024×768 resolution. You also get some decent gaming speed, thanks to the PowerVR SGX544 graphics core baked into the A31 CPU.

On-board flash provides a decent 16GB worth of storage to play with, while you can use MicroSD, up to 32GB, to provide extra storage for the device. It features Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system out of the box and if you need personal communications, the device comes with Bluetooth 3.0. There are also good Wi-Fi options too with 802.11b/g/n to work with. The Lithium-ion rechargeable battery is one of the larger ones this side of $US200 pricing with its 4400mAh capacity.

The device delivers high-quality photos, thanks to its 5MP image sensor on the back but you won’t find anything on the front.

The ICOO ICOU8GS weights in at reasonably heavy 420g and has external dimensions of 198 x 150 x 9mm. The device was announced first in June 2013. You’ll find it online for around the $US165 mark, possibly less if you shop around.
