The latest news from Samsung is that a new device is hitting the market. It’s called the Samsung I9295 Galaxy S4 Active and amongst its features, it includes a TFT capacitive touchscreen panel with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution within its 5.0-inch frame and as much as 2 GB of memory under the glass.
Other major features include a 1.9GHz Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600 chip powering the new model’s performance levels, while the Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600′s GPU core is based on an Adreno 320 type with a view to gaming and video support.
You get on-board storage, taken care of by 16 GB (11.2 GB user available) of flash while there’s microSD, up to 64 GB, to provide bulk space outside of the device. It features Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system to run your apps and keep things busy. And for power, the device includes a 2600mAh Li-Ion-type battery but unfortunately, no talk or standby times were available at time of publishing.
In addition, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP handles the lower-power wireless side of things and there is good wireless connectivity available with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac built-in. Coverage is handled over 2G through its 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz band support and 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz bands for 3G networks.
The device delivers high-quality photos, thanks to its 8 MP (3264 x 2448 pixels) with autofocus image sensor on the back and you get a simpler 2 MP camera on the front. The device is also capable of capturing video at up to 1080p@30fps.
The major difference between this and the original S4 is the new ruggedised design that should take a little more harsh treatment. The 8MP image sensor is also down compared with the S4.
The Samsung I9295 Galaxy S4 Active lands on the scales with 151 grams and measures 139.7 x 71.3 x 9.1 mm. The announcement date for this unit was back in June 2013.
